Library Study Rooms

Four rooms are available in the library for student study groups. The rooms are equipped with whiteboards. Markers and erasers may be checked out at the Research Help desk.

To reserve a study room, come to the Research Help desk on the 2nd floor and find the clipboard. Clearly indicate when you will be occupying the room. You can also call the desk (558-2461) and ask a librarian to write you in.

Same-day reservations can be difficult to get. Please try to sign up in advance. On Thursday mornings, we put out the signup sheet for the next week.

Study rooms are subject to the following rules (also see the Access Services policy for general library rules):

  1. Reservations can be made for up to two (2) hours per day per group. A group means two (2) or more current SCC students. No tutoring, clubs, office hours or other meetings.
  2. Groups arriving more than ten (10) minutes past their reserved time can be "bumped"; the room becomes available to other groups. In order to occupy the room,  more than one person from the group must have arrived.
  3. Study rooms are subject to the same food and drink policy as the rest of the library; currently that means no food. Drinks with hard covers are allowed.
  4. The rooms are not soundproof. Users need to keep their noise level within sensible boundaries.

Can't get a room? Meeting with a group that doesn't fit within the guidelines in rule no. 1? The second floor is not a silent study area. Feel free to take a table and work together.
